FORMER STUDENTS OF ST MARY’S HIGH SCHOOL, PONDA, WHO HAVE BEEN PRIVILEGED TO STUDY IN THIS PRESTIGIOUS SCHOOL, WOULD LIKE TO PLACE ON RECORD THEIR APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE TO THE FRANCISCAN HOSPITALLER SOCIETY FOR IMPARTING GOOD EDUCATION BASED ON SOUND MORAL VALUES IN PREPARING THEM FOR LIFE. TO PERPETUATE THIS LEGACY AND TO UNITE THE EX-STUDENTS IN A COMMON BOND, IT WAS DECIDED TO BRING TOGETHER ALL THE FORMER STUDENTS UNDER ONE BODY. INSPIRED BY THE MOTTO, THE MEMBERS OF THIS EX-STUDENTS ASSOCIATION WILL STRIVE TO GROW TO THEIR FULL POTENTIAL TO MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE.

St Mary's High School ( Boys under 14 ) defeated St Joseph's Karai, Shiroda in the finals 2 - 0 played at Madkaim grounds, Ponda . Earlier they played against Dada Vaidya 2- 0. In the quarter finals they outwitted St Anthony's Shiroda 1 - 0 & then in the semis our boys ousted
Dr Sakharam Gude High School, Shiroda in the tie breaker 3 - 0.

A talk on “ADVANCES IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY”


A talk on “ADVANCES IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY” was organized by the Ex-Students Association on Friday , 11TH September 2009 (Time: 12.00 -13.00 hrs) for the Std VII students . It was delivered by Prof. Nilesh B. Faldessai, Assistant Professor & Head of Information Technology Department of Goa Engineering College ,Farmagudi.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION STRENGHTEN INSTITUTION'S ROOTS: DR VERNAL



Headmistress of St. Mary’s High School, Ponda Rev. Sr. AOF Annie Paul is seen with new committee of St. Mary’s Alumni Association which was formed in the School premises on August 9, 2009. Others seen are Shri John Aguiar (President), Shri Mayuresh Khaunte(Vice President), Shri Vikas Chodankar (Secretary), Ms. Smita Shrivastava (Member), Shri Gajanan Nagersekar (Member), Irwin Soares(Member), Siberia Dias (Member), Smt. Helen Paul (Member) ,Ms. Sigrid de Cunha (member) are also seen.

The Alumni Association of St Mary’s High School, Ponda was inaugurated by Dr. Luis Vernal, Dean of Faculty of Education, Goa University & Principal of GVM’s College of Education , Ponda by lighting the traditional lamp in the distinguished presence of Sr. Annie Paul ,Headmistress of St. Mary’s High School Ponda at a function held in the school premises in August 2009.

The committee of the Association is headed by Shri John Aguiar and comprises of Shri Mayuresh Khaunte as the Vice President, Shri Vikas Chodankar as Secretary, Joint Secretary, Ms. Smita Shrivastava, Treasurer Smt. Sibelia Dias and Members: Shri Irwin Soares, Smt Helen Paul ,Ms. Sigrid de Cunha, Shri Gajanan Nagersekar and others.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Vernal , the Alumni associations give a platform to know each other, thus including them in the Marian family. This chapter is a step to strengthen the school’s roots. The setting up of this association he said will help bringing everyone under one umbrella. The alumni’s interaction will bring back the Marian spirit, bringing service to the alma mater and to society.

In her welcome address Sr. Paul said, in order to sustain the bond of friendship of the yesteryears, and with the aim of helping the alma mater, St. Mary's High School Ponda Alumni Association (SMHSPAA) has been formed. Sister Paul also announced the names of the new committee members.

President of the Alumni Association, Shri John Aguiar , recalled his days as a student in the school. He sought active support and cooperation to the Alumni Association in any form which he said will go along way in making this Association an effective platform for interaction and also contribute towards the alma mater.

Shri Gajanan Nagersekar listed wide range of activities that could be undertaken by the Association from organizing annual musical extravaganzas, holding their annual family get-together, felicitation programmes for students excelling in their examination, Career guidance workshops, institution of awards for the students, felicitation for retiring teachers and organizing Medical Camps regularly.

Shri Tribolo D’Souza said that the Marians are shining everywhere and holding the flag high. Secretary of the Association, Shri Vikas Chodankar, said that the ex-students of the school place on record their deep appreciation and gratitude to Franciscan Hospitaller Society for imparting good education based on sound moral values in preparing them for life. Miss.Madulika Kanchi an ex-student from the last batch also spoke on the occasion.

The inauguration ceremony was followed by an interactive session. It was great to see the ex-students come together. Everyone went back to their school days.

WORLD ELDERS DAY OBSERVED BY EX STUDENTS OF ST MARYS PONDA








The Ex Students Association of St Marys school school observed World elders day on 1st October 2009 in association with the St.Mary's School. The ex teachers of the school and former employees were felicitated on the occasion.

JRC INSTALLED AT ST MARYS SCHOOL PONDA



Mr John Aguiar, President of Ex-Students Association of St. Mary’s High School, Ponda and Life member of Goa Red Cross Society has said that “Red Cross” instills commitments and responsibilities, and make members dedicated and responsible citizens.

Mr Aguiar was speaking as the Chief Guest at the Junior Red Cross and JRC Managing Committee Installation ceremony of the St. Mary’s School, Ponda on November 17, 2009. Principal of the School and president of Managing Committee of JRC, Sr. Annie Paul presided over the function while Mr Vikas Chodankar, Secretary of the Ex-Students Association of St. Mary’s High School, Ponda was the guest of honour.Sr. Most Teacher Mrs. Suchita Bendake and Sister Shaila Chako were also present.

Speaking further, Mr Aguiar called upon the newly inducted students to help prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever they are and the help others in need and to do good deed always as this he said will give them happiness and satisfaction.

Guest of Honour Mr Vikas Chodankar in his speech advised the students to primarily focus on community health issues and community services. He said in Junior Red Cross, children develop many skills and humanitarian attitudes. Referring to a pot of crabs in which one of them tries to escape and instead is pulled down by the rest of them. "if i can't have it, neither can you", this type of mentally is very bad and students should do away with it, Mr Vikas added.

The portrait of Jean Henry Dunant a Swiss businessman who started the Red Cross in 1859 to help wounded soldiers, and with a mission to inspire and encourage people to minimise human sufferings was garlanded on the occasion by the Chief Guest Mr John Aguiar and later lighted the traditional lamp to mark along with Principal Sr. Annie Paul, Guest of Honour Mr Vikas Chodankar and others.

Mr John Aguiar administered the pledge to all the juniors while Mr Vikas Chodankar administered the pledge to the JRC Managing Committee followed by pinning of badges and putting the scarf’s around the neck of the new inductees. Miss Komal Salkar is the Chairperson of the JRC Committee for 2009-2010, Miss Beula Fernandes-Vice Chairperson, Miss. Amaral fernandes-Secretary,Mast. Shray Tyagi-Asstt. Secretary, Miss. Anisha Andrade-Treasurer and Miss. Suchita Naik, Miss. Amruta B. Raj,Mast. Mritunjay and Mast. Warren Soares as members.

In her address, Principal Sr. Annie Paul said that discipline is the basic set of tools which are required to solve life's problems.

Mrs. Ruby Rodrigues, JRY Counsellor compered. Miss Valerie Cardoz, highlighted the role of Red Cross organization. The JRC students presented a skit and patriotic songs and dance. Teacher Tereza welcomed the gathering while Miss Lovanxa proposed a vote of thanks.

Mr John Aguiar who is a also a Konkani poet presented the Konkani Music CD by Mr Sidhnath Buyao to the school. Mr Aguiar has penned five songs in the CD.
