PREAMBLE

FORMER STUDENTS OF ST MARY’S HIGH SCHOOL, PONDA, WHO HAVE BEEN PRIVILEGED TO STUDY IN THIS PRESTIGIOUS SCHOOL, WOULD LIKE TO PLACE ON RECORD THEIR APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE TO THE FRANCISCAN HOSPITALLER SOCIETY FOR IMPARTING GOOD EDUCATION BASED ON SOUND MORAL VALUES IN PREPARING THEM FOR LIFE. TO PERPETUATE THIS LEGACY AND TO UNITE THE EX-STUDENTS IN A COMMON BOND, IT WAS DECIDED TO BRING TOGETHER ALL THE FORMER STUDENTS UNDER ONE BODY. INSPIRED BY THE MOTTO, THE MEMBERS OF THIS EX-STUDENTS ASSOCIATION WILL STRIVE TO GROW TO THEIR FULL POTENTIAL TO MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE.

JRC INSTALLED AT ST MARYS SCHOOL PONDA



Mr John Aguiar, President of Ex-Students Association of St. Mary’s High School, Ponda and Life member of Goa Red Cross Society has said that “Red Cross” instills commitments and responsibilities, and make members dedicated and responsible citizens.

Mr Aguiar was speaking as the Chief Guest at the Junior Red Cross and JRC Managing Committee Installation ceremony of the St. Mary’s School, Ponda on November 17, 2009. Principal of the School and president of Managing Committee of JRC, Sr. Annie Paul presided over the function while Mr Vikas Chodankar, Secretary of the Ex-Students Association of St. Mary’s High School, Ponda was the guest of honour.Sr. Most Teacher Mrs. Suchita Bendake and Sister Shaila Chako were also present.

Speaking further, Mr Aguiar called upon the newly inducted students to help prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever they are and the help others in need and to do good deed always as this he said will give them happiness and satisfaction.

Guest of Honour Mr Vikas Chodankar in his speech advised the students to primarily focus on community health issues and community services. He said in Junior Red Cross, children develop many skills and humanitarian attitudes. Referring to a pot of crabs in which one of them tries to escape and instead is pulled down by the rest of them. "if i can't have it, neither can you", this type of mentally is very bad and students should do away with it, Mr Vikas added.

The portrait of Jean Henry Dunant a Swiss businessman who started the Red Cross in 1859 to help wounded soldiers, and with a mission to inspire and encourage people to minimise human sufferings was garlanded on the occasion by the Chief Guest Mr John Aguiar and later lighted the traditional lamp to mark along with Principal Sr. Annie Paul, Guest of Honour Mr Vikas Chodankar and others.

Mr John Aguiar administered the pledge to all the juniors while Mr Vikas Chodankar administered the pledge to the JRC Managing Committee followed by pinning of badges and putting the scarf’s around the neck of the new inductees. Miss Komal Salkar is the Chairperson of the JRC Committee for 2009-2010, Miss Beula Fernandes-Vice Chairperson, Miss. Amaral fernandes-Secretary,Mast. Shray Tyagi-Asstt. Secretary, Miss. Anisha Andrade-Treasurer and Miss. Suchita Naik, Miss. Amruta B. Raj,Mast. Mritunjay and Mast. Warren Soares as members.

In her address, Principal Sr. Annie Paul said that discipline is the basic set of tools which are required to solve life's problems.

Mrs. Ruby Rodrigues, JRY Counsellor compered. Miss Valerie Cardoz, highlighted the role of Red Cross organization. The JRC students presented a skit and patriotic songs and dance. Teacher Tereza welcomed the gathering while Miss Lovanxa proposed a vote of thanks.

Mr John Aguiar who is a also a Konkani poet presented the Konkani Music CD by Mr Sidhnath Buyao to the school. Mr Aguiar has penned five songs in the CD.
